DISCIPLINE

  • The management sees to it that each pupil imbibes the spirit of discipline, as a habit of the mind and not by external compulsion. St. Mary’s Convent School expects each student to uphold the school's values imbibed at the school, not only during their school years but also throughout their life. The spirit of St. Mary’s Convent School is to be reflected through such values. Parents are requested to co-operate in the working of the school by enforcing regularity, punctuality and discipline and by taking interest in their ward's progress.
  • Every pupil shall endeavor to keep up the high standard and morale of the school by excelling in studies, manners and deportment.
  • Students & Parents should check the School hand book every evening. Remarks made in the School handbook by the principal/teacher should be taken note of and counter signed. Besides the school hand book, circulars will be sent as and when required.
  • Since the handbook is prepared at the beginning of the year, minor changes in dates and timings may sometimes have to be effected. The same will be communicated through the handbook.
  • The school uniform should be clean, tidy and ironed with clean socks and wellpolished shoes. Students who are not in the prescribed uniform may be sent home.
  • It is the responsibility of every student in the school to ensure that the school is free from litter and plastic. Students are also encouraged to take the responsibility for litter in their immediate vicinity and make the school a plastic free zone.
  • Punctuality is the key to success. Pupils should be present in the school, before the first bell at 8.00 a.m. for commencement of classes. Latecomers should meet the Principal and their names will be entered in the late coming record.
  • Pupils should not move about at the time of prayer and National Anthem. They shall observe strict silence at the assembly.
  • When the teacher enters the classroom, all the students should stand up, greet him/ her, recite the prayer before class and remain standing until they are asked to sit down. In the absence of the teacher, the class leader assumes the responsibility for the order and discipline of the class.
  • No pupil shall enter other classrooms without permission. Pupils may change their allotted seats in the class room only with the permission of the class teacher.
  • Running or playing about or shouting inside the classrooms or corridors is not allowed. While passing along the corridors and quadrangles during school hours, pupils shall keep perfect silence. No shouting or whistling is allowed in the class rooms. No student shall disturb another class at work on the flimsy plea of taking a pen, pencil or book on loan from his/her friend.
  • All books must be kept clean and well labelled. No drawings, pictures, photograph or scribbling will be accepted on any part of any text book and exercise book. The offenders at their own expense will replace books, files and any school property defaced in this way or destroyed.
  • The students and the staff are expected to speak only English in the school campus
  • Gold ornaments, jewellery and costly articles are not to be brought to the school under any circumstances.
  • Playing cards, toys, tattoos, CDs, mobile phones, cameras, video games, chewing gum, fire crackers, periodicals. etc should not be brought to school.
  • Wrist watches (not too expensive and matching size) are allowed only for students of grade V and above. They are not to be removed during the school hours.
  • Parents/guardians/visitors/drivers are not expected to enter the classroom or speak to teachers during the class hours.
  • Parents are expected to meet the class teachers on specific days at the allotted time to discuss the progress of their ward.
  • If your ward has any problem in school, please inform the school authorities at the earliest.
  • No student can leave the school premises during the school hours without the Principal's permission. They need to avail the gate pass from the Principal/Vice Principal.
  • Habitual negligence in work, disobedience, acts of misconduct, abusive or vulgar language, destruction of school property etc. will involve severe disciplinary action including expulsion.
  • The school counsellor is available during the school hours. In the event of any academic or emotional stress, you may contact the counsellor through the class teacher.
  • The ID card is mandatory and the students will not be permitted to attend classes without it.
  • All efforts made by the teachers with regard to student's education, can bear fruit, only if the parents co-operate. Hence parents should ensure that:
    (a) Children attend school in the prescribed uniform and with the required books.
    (b) Children get enough time at home for lessons and assignments.
    (c) Fees are paid on scheduled dates.
  • The principal/management has the right to introduce, amend or change the rules and regulations whenever necessary in furtherance of the aims and objectives of the school.
  • Boys should have hair length of acceptable levels. No tonsuring, defined sideburns, hair colouring, straightening or curling.
  • Girls hair to be tied up neatly. No hair coloring, hair gel, straightening or curling. No eye shadow or makeup. No henna or tatoos.
  • Whenever students are permitted to wear coloured casuals, they must be modestly and suitably attired for school. T-Shirts and jeans are strictly prohibited.
  • Students are strictly prohibited from bringing Junk food and aerated drinks into the school campus
  • Students are expected to behave in a dignified manner outside the school premises and any activity in public should be aimed at keeping up the high standards of the school.
  • Students are not allowed to enter the staff room without permission or in the absence of teachers in the staff room.
  • All students are encouraged to learn and recite the prayers as prescribed in the hand book.
  • Distribution of chocolates during birth days and celebrations is allowed. The students are encouraged to donate funds for the same towards charity works initiated by school.

BIRTHDAY

  • For birthdays, students can wear casual clothes.

PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

The active co-operation of the parents is an essential pre-requisite for the welfare of the students.

Parents are advised to take care of the following:

  • The diary contains all the important rules and regulations and the record of the student’s progress. Parents are, therefore, requested to look into it regularly.
  • If any communication regarding the students is to be sent, it should be mentioned in the pages devoted to it.
  • Supervise the child's daily lessons. The students are instructed to note down home assignments daily. Ensure that the child has adequate hours of study at home and completes all assignments.
  • Kindly take note of the message whenever it is sent to you through this diary or in the mobile and take necessary action.
  • Parents/Guardians can be of great help in maintaining school discipline. Please send your wards in proper school uniforms and in time. No relaxation will be granted with regard to the school uniform except in genuine cases.
  • Parents are requested to take active interest in all the curricular and co-curricular activities of the school.
  • You are requested to watch carefully the student's progress in tests and examinations and if necessary, meet the Principal and concerned teachers/class teachers to get more guidance.
  • Parents/Guardians are requested to meet the class teacher of their children/wards from time to time especially when invited by the Principal and during the Open House.
  • It is not advisable to bring valuable articles to the school including jewellery and parents should discourage their children from doing so.
  • Intimate any change of phone number or address to the school promptly.
  • Participation in talks or seminars arranged by school authorities is compulsory to help and guide parents in fulfilling their parental responsibility in the best possible manner.
  • The Management, Principal and Staff will not be held responsible in any way for mishaps, injuries or loss of life that may occur to the student while being transported by the bus and vans.
  • Children should be escorted to and from school by parents or persons authorized by them.
  • Respond to circulars and other communication from the school promptly.
  • Parents/guardians/visitors/drivers are not expected to enter the classroom or speak to teachers during the class hours.
  • Critical remarks about a teacher should carefully be avoided in the presence of the children as this will cause loss of respect for one’s teacher.
